Unwanted Freckles? Visit A Med Spa

Some people love their freckles and find them cute. Other people don't like their freckles and wish they would go away. If you don't like your freckles, you may want to consider visiting a med spa near you. There are a few treatments that med spas offer that can help fade your freckles or even do away with them completely.

Chemical Peels

If your freckles are relatively light but very abundant, as is common in people with red hair, then you may want to opt for a chemical peel. A chemical peel won't get rid of your freckles completely, but it will fade them. If your freckles are already on the light side, a chemical peel can likely fade them to the point that they're barely noticeable.

If you get a chemical peel, your practitioner will apply an acidic solution, like glycolic or salicylic acid, to your face. After leaving it in place for a few minutes, they will then rinse it away. The chemicals will remove the dead, outer layers of your skin, revealing newer, fresher skin that typically has less prominent freckles because it has not been directly exposed to the sun.

IPL

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. This is a light-based treatment that can help break down the melanin in your skin that causes your freckles. It won't always get rid of darker, larger freckles completely, but it will fade them. And it can sometimes erase lighter freckles entirely.

Your practitioner will use a special device to administer the IPL to your skin. They will have to target each freckle individually. As such, IPL can take a long time if you have a lot of freckles to treat. But the results are often worth the wait.

Cryosurgery

If you have a really prominent, dark-colored freckle—or even a few of them—your med spa practitioner may recommend cryosurgery to remove the freckle. Basically, the skin in the area will be frozen, which will kill it and cause a small chunk of skin to fall off. That chunk will contain the freckle. The skin that grows back in its place should be less pigmented. This approach is a little invasive and sometimes causes minor scars, so it is really only used when the options above are not effective.

If you don't like your freckles, there are ways to diminish them. Talk to a med spa practitioner. They'll tell you which of the above treatments fits your needs the best.
