If you are going to have a tummy tuck procedure done in the near future, you are most likely excited about the new appearance you will have to show off to others. While waiting to see the results of your surgery, you will most likely have some discomfort and slight pain to deal with as you recover. Here are some tips you can use to make the recovery process a bit easier.

Rely On Mechanical Means For Transportation

When recovering from a tummy tuck, your abdomen will be sore, making twisting and quick movements tend to exacerbate symptoms. Consider using a mobile scooter when going to stores and use elevators and escalators in larger facilities rather than walking up and down steps. If you or someone in your household suffers from mobility issues, it may be a feasible time to purchase a lift chair as it will help you get from floor to floor during your recovery time as well.

Set Up A Resting Area Where Your Upper Body Remains Upright

It is a good idea to use a recliner instead of a standard bed when recovering from a tummy tuck procedure. This will allow you to gain your footing easier when you decide to go to a standing position. If a recliner is not obtainable, use several pillows to keep your upper body elevated as you rest in your bed. This will help keep you from rolling onto your side where pain is likely to be more noticeable.

Leave a step stool by the side of your bed so you can ease yourself to floor level without stretching your midriff too much at one time. When you attempt to move to a standing position, place a pillow across your incision and apply pressure in upon it. This can also be done when you need to cough or sneeze to make it less painful in the stomach area during the process.

Wear Appropriate Clothing To Help Reduce Pain

Your doctor may recommend you wear a compression band around your stomach to help reduce the chance of blood clots as you heal. This piece of material will also be helpful in reducing the amount of pain you feel as you move around.

Purchase some comfortable clothing to wear in the weeks after your surgery. Women may fare better with flowing dresses without a restrictive waistband. Women and men alike can wear high-waist pants so the incision area is not rubbed by material as it heals.
